If you’re Good at Something Never Do it For Free

This post title is a quote from heath ledger who played joker in movie dark knight which i’m sure you’ve seen already and if not then do watch it. Why this quote has very in-depth meaning and what it teaches us ? Many career guidance expert tell us that we should do things that interests us. But make sure when you do something for free there is some catch to it, else you’ll starve and you’ll regret it in future.

People who ask something for free usually stick with it only if the source of free object remains active. Once the source of free object is gone, then they move on to another source which offers the same object for free without caring about previous source. This is how our society is working and this cycle repeats from one generation to another. Apply this to software development or consulting, results are still the same no matter in which timeline you look into. People don’t care for person who do things for free to them, they care for their own needs. There is nothing wrong with being selfish when they assess their own actions, but they do think if you become selfish from your side and charge for service. This ultimately creates a hypocrite deadlock in mind which we all should avoid by not letting this world turn into some hippie cult.

So if you don’t want to starve in life, you need to charge for the service. If you’re good at something never do it for free.
